UAB’s Trent Dilfer threatens any Power 5 coach for poaching players: ‘I’m gonna call your ass out’

UAB football coach Trent Dilfer has sent a message to all Power 5 coaches who reach out to his players. He will expose you.

In a passionate take during an appearance on “The Rick and Bubba Show,” the former NFL quarterback threatened any coach who messes with his roster.

“Come try and get my guys,” he said. “I dare you, Power 5s. I have a pretty big platform that I can step on. If I find out you are in my kids’ DMs and if I find out you talking to high school coaches about my kids, if you are in my roster, I’m gonna call your ass out.

“I’m going to say it by name to the biggest voices in television today. It’s going to make GameDay. It’s going to make SportsCenter. Those guys making SportsCenter are still my friends.”

Dilfer added he made a plea to fellow American Athletic Conference coaches to do the same, but he explained they won’t because they want to be in the Power 5 conferences at some point. Not Dilfer. The UAB coach said he has no aspirations of getting a bigger job. His home is in Birmingham.

Earlier this month, Dilfer spoke at the NIL Summit where he was asked how much NIL money is needed for the Blazers to compete in the American Athletic Conference.

It isn’t about competing against your conference foes, he said, it’s about battling Power 5 schools from plucking your players.
